
Delhi: Kalon Karma Yeshi, Department of Finance, Central Tibetan Administration participated in a daylong meeting on the ‘Legacy of George Fernandes’ at the Institute of Social Sciences in Delhi, 6 March. The commemorative comment was organised by the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS) to remember Shri Fernandes’ life and legacy.
Kalon Karma Yeshi paid homage to the former Defence Minister and staunch Tibet supporter who passed away on 29 January this year after prolonged illness.
Remembering the late veteran leader as a dear friend of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and an ardent supporter of the Tibetan people, Kalon expressed his condolence and respect to the family of George Saheb and those who have known him.
Many other close associates and admirers of Fernandes, including MP K C Tyagi, Jaya Jaitley, Anand Kumar, Arun Kumar, Dick Gupwell, Leila Kabir, Paul Fernandes, Representative Ngodup Dongchung, Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi, former Kalon Dolma Gyari attended the event.
Shri Fernandes dedicated his life to the welfare of the people especially the poor and the marginalized and remained true to his beliefs and principles whether in government or outside of it.
Dr Ash Narain Roy, Director of ISS and Dr George Mathew, Chairman both delivered remarks at the meeting.
“Shri Fernandes was the moving spirit behind the establishment of the Institute in 1985 and continued to be its patron and supporter till he fell ill in 2010,” the ISS said.
