DHARAMSHALA: The Central Tibetan Administration on Wednesday organised a prayer service at the main temple to express solidarity with Tibetans who have self-immolated and those suffering severe repression in Tibet.
Addressing the prayer service, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay expressed hopes that EU High Representative Catherine Ashton will take up the issue of Tibet when she visit’s China from 25-28 April. He lauded earlier statements made by Ms Ashton urging the Chinese leadership to resolve the Tibet problem through dialogue.
He said US Secretary of State John Kerry had raised the human rights with the Chinese leadership during his recent visit to China.
Sikyong said the recent US state department’s report on Tibet has shown that China’s repressive policies in Tibet are the root causes of the self-immolation protests by Tibetans. “Therefore, the solution to the crisis also lies with the Chinese government,” he added.
“The international community, including governments and parliaments, has consistently stated that the best solution of China to resolve the crisis in Tibet is through dialogue and adopting liberal policies on Tibet issue,” Sikyong said.
