PRETORIA: Mr Migyur Dorjee, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in South Africa met Ms Navi Pillay, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, when she visited Wits University in Johannesburg Wednesday to speak on ‘Human Rights Achievements and Challenges in a Rapidly Changing World’.
While participating in the discussion, Mr Dorjee raised concern about the systematic violation of human rights in Tibet. He thanked Ms Pillay for her loud and clear message through a statement issued in November last year to the Chinese government on the appalling human rights situation in Tibet. He further said that Tibet is one place in the world where worst kind of human rights violation is taking place, resulting in unprecedented self-immolation protests by 115 Tibetans since 2009.
He appealed for her continued support to bring about a meaningful improvement in the human rights situation in Tibet.
