His Holiness the Dalai Lama has four major commitments in his life–Promotion of Human Values, Promotion of Inter-Religious Harmony, Protection of Tibet’s Environment and Culture and Revival of Ancient Indian Knowledge and Wisdom.
It is in connection with the fourth commitment that His Holiness recently met and interacted with a group of young Indian scholars at his official residence in Dharamshala on Thursday this week.
The ancient Indian knowledge derived from the Nalanda tradition has lost to destruction in the passage of time and yet, it was preserved and practiced by Tibetans.
Speaking to the group of young scholars, His Holiness referred to India, as he often does, as the ‘Guru’ and the Tibetans as its ‘Chela’ and quite a reliable one at that.
“My latest commitment is to revive this knowledge through education, not through puja. Of course, that is part of Indian culture, but real culture is the knowledge that is within. That is India’s culture. I am hoping this knowledge should be used by our Indian friends,” His Holiness remarked.
At a time when the world is beset with violence, His Holiness believes that India’s ancient knowledge can be a useful remedy to those man-made problems in today’s world.
“Now in order to help other countries, first this knowledge should be revived in this country. You, Indians please pay more attention to your ancient knowledge on inner world. Without inner peace, we cannot achieve external peace,” His Holiness concluded.
His Holiness plea for the Indians, particularly the young Indians, to pay attention to their ancient wisdom, strikes a right chord with the young scholars who engaged in an intense interactive session with His Holiness. The meeting between His Holiness and the young scholars was streamed live on official Facebook page and website of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and quite as expected, this meeting trended the most this week.
