
Dharamshala: Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk, Department of Health, CTA accompanied by South Zone Chief Representative Chophel Thupten and Joint Secretary Jampa Phuntsok, DOH concluded official tour of Tibetan settlements in Mundgod, Hunsur, Bylakuppe and visited Tibetan students in Mangalore.
Health Kalon also called on Jawaid Akhtar (IAS), Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka on 27 November. Kalon apprised him of requisition made earlier for the state government’s support to the DoH health facilities in Tibetan settlements in Karnataka State.
In Mangalore, he paid courtesy call to the Vice chancellor and the Principal of NITTE University and the Vice Chairman along with the Director and the Principal of Shreedevi Institute.
From 22 – 23 November, Kalon had interactions with over 180 Tibetan students pursuing medical courses at NITTE, Manipal and other colleges including MV Shetty, Zulekha and others. The meetings were held at NITTE and Sree Devi Institute.
In both the gathering, Kalon highlighted the health status of Tibetans in exile and Central Tibetan Administration’s efforts and health services. He also advised students to pursue their studies diligently and come to serve the Tibetan community after completion.
All the students, in unison, expressed their happiness at meeting Kalon; those from Manipal, Udupi requested for similar interactions to be organised at their respective Universities in future.

From 23 to 26 November, Kalon visited Tibetan settlements in Bylakuppe and Hunsur.
On 23rd evening, Kalon was received at Lugsum office by the Tibetan officials, representative of monasteries and NGOs based in Bylakuppe.
Kalon presided over a meeting of Local Health Committee held at Tso jhe Hospital. Matter pertaining to the activities of Tso jhe Hospital and local health issues were discussed. In-charge of Sera Jey, Sera Mey and Namdroling hospitals were also present in the meeting.
Kalon later led an inspection of the Tso jhe hospital, Delar playground, Open Gym, Cauvery water filter projects and DoHealth project of new hand pump at the Settlement Palace (Phodrang).
He inaugurated the Open Gym of the Lugsam settlement and held a meeting with the Tso jhe hospital staff.
Kalon also visited the Bylakuppe Old Age Home, where the Health department had recently completed an overhead water tank project.
On 25 November, Kalon visited Tso jhe Hospital TB ward where with the help of Vimala Association, new tin shed is being constructed on the existing structure.
Kalon concluded his official tour with a visit to Hunsur Tibetan settlement on 26 November. He held a meeting with Local Tibetan Health Committee, interacted with all the medical and non-medical staff of the hospital and visited the TMAI branch clinic.
Kalon inspected the areas where projects for open gym and building urinals for players were proposed. He also took a stock of water conservation sites in the locality.
