New York: CTA president Dr. Lobsag Sangay was presented the Award of Gratitude by the Tibetan Community of NY&NJ (TCNYNJ) in New York for his outstanding leadership for more than seven years. The event also coincides with the 25th anniversary of Cholsum Doegar Tibetan performing Arts group of NY.
The ceremony commenced with a Short documentary video on the life of Dr. Sangay. The president of TCNYNJ Sonam Ghephel made a narrative statement describing President’s major achievements and accomplishments in the 14th and 15th Kashag.
Thanking the Tibetan community for the award, Dr. Sangay said that the award is actually not him but for the Kashag and its service to the Tibetan community. He added that New York-New Jersey is the home of the largest Tibetan diaspora and therefore, should take a leading role in reshaping our freedom movement, not to waste time to discuss internal political gossips at coffee shops. Rather, must work in unity to identify ways to challenge China’s rising global power.
Dr. Sangay cautioned the Tibetans that providing information about citizens of your country to other country is a crime referring to the Tibetan man in Sweden who was charged with espionage in April 2018. He added that the authorities are well aware of such acts and such individual could be caught anytime, put in Jail and strip of their Green Card and citizenship.
He urged the Tibetan to read ‘Tibet was never part of China but Middle way approach is a viable solution’ a detailed report launched by Central Tibetan Administration as a response to China’s white paper on Tibet challenging Beijing’s claims that the legitimacy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet rests on China’s recognition and approval. He assured that this report will help to respond to Chinese questions and creating awareness among Chinese.
Dr. Sangay said that he has been travelling around the world to seek political and financial support for Tibet movement and that he now feels he has somewhat created a sound base for the future leaders to take the movement forward when his tenure ends after two years.
Representative Ngodup Tsering while addressing the public, said that taking opportunity of this Thanksgiving Day, the Tibetan should feel thankful to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the best way to thank him is to work in unity for the cause of Tibet and preservation of Tibetan culture and language for Tibetans did not come here to lose its identity and to make only money.
Over thousand Tibetans thronged the auditorium to see and hear their beloved leader Dr Lobsang Sangay. He wraps up his visit to North America and departed for Amsterdam to participate in Thank You Netherland.
