
NEW YORK: A group of young Chinese scholars and students based in New York held an informal interaction with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Representative Kasur Lobsang Nyandak and Chinese liaison officer Kunga Tashi in New York on Saturday (16 March).
Representative Lobsang Nyandak explained the policy of Middle Way Approach, importance of dialogue between Tibetan and Chinese peoples and the role of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in resolving the issue of Tibet.
He also apprised them about the democratic system adopted by Tibetans in exile, the landmark devolution of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s political authority to the democratically-elected Tibetan leadership, and the ever growing determination of Tibetans inside Tibet.
The Chinese students raised various questions on self-immolations in Tibet, democratic reforms in China, Buddhism, and how to solicit more international support for the Tibetan issue.
Most of the students have recently arrived in the United States, and say they are eager to learn about the issue Tibet issue through primary sources, said Ngawang Yonten, an official at the Office of Tibet in New York.
