DHARAMSHALA: Reports coming out of Tibet say a Tibetan man in Sog Dzong in Nagchu in eastern Tibet has been arrested by the Chinese authorities for allegedly contacting the outside world.
Dagyalm, 40, was forcibly taken into custody during a night raid by the local authorities in Sog Dzong on 11 March, a day before which Tibetans across the world commemorated the 54th National Uprising Day against China’s invasion and occupation of Tibet. His whereabouts and well-being remain unknown. Local Tibetans say local authorities suspect him for contacting the outside.
The Chinese authorities has stepped up restrictions and surveillance on mobile phones in the region. They had imposed restrictions on movement of nomads and farmers during the Tibetan New Year in February.
It was also earlier reported that Tsepak, a 29-year-old monk of Kirti Monastery, was arrested and taken away by police during a night raid on the eve of the uprising anniversary.
Tsepak was arrested when he was nursing an ailing relative at a village near his monastery in Ngaba in eastern Tibet. The relatives still don’t know the reasons behind his arrest and current whereabouts.
