Mr Thubten Samdup, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s representative for Northern Europe put this question to the All Party Parliamentary group in the Scottish Parliament earlier this week.
Mr Thubten stressed that the question of Tibet is not just for Tibet and Tibetans, it is a matter for the whole world. Should Tibet fail, the only non violent movement in the world to resolve conflict, the people of the world will be leaving a legacy to future generations that peaceful means to resolve conflict has no value.
He told members of the Tibetan community to be creative and reach out to more people to raise awareness, particularly the Chinese people, who he believes can make the utmost contribution to the issue of Tibet.
“He left us acknowledging the profound sacrifices made by Tibetans inside Tibet for Tibet and the Tibetan people. We, who live in the free world, must value these sacrifices and take up the responsibility of fulfilling their aspirations for freedom in Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s return to Tibet,” Changchub Mermesel, Chairperson of Tibetan community in Scotland, told TibetNet.
