Tibetans strongly oppose China’s forced housing policy in Sershul CountyWednesday, 15 July 2009, 11:29 a.m.
Dharamshala: The
Tibetan residents in Sershul County (Ch:Shiqu) are expressing strong
resentment against a new housing policy notice issued by the Chinese
government on 11 July, which makes it mandatory for each family to
rebuild their existing house. The relevant department of the Chinese
government in the region has ordered each family to begin the
reconstruction work with immediate effect, sources in Tibet reported.Under
the new policy, each household will get 10, 000 Yuan from the
government, apart from which all the extra expenses incurred have to be
met by the family. Many of the families who had rebuild their houses at their own expenses since last year are now forced to dismantle them.
