Chinese Police Fires at Tibetan Protesters in Eastern in TibetTuesday, 16 June 2009, 2:28 p.m.
Dharamshala:According to a reliable source, one Tibetan suffered gun shot wounds and three others were seriously wounded by Chinese police for taking part in a farming boycott campaign in the end of May in eastern Tibet.Tsering was hit by a bullet and Paga and Lhadher were taken away after being seriously beaten and injured by police with a baton. Samga was also beaten with the barrel of a gun. All these cases took place in Jomda County (Chamdo Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region TAR) in the end of May.The protesters were arrested including staff of Vara and Jobhu monasteries in Jomda County. With the exception of Sonam Palmo (alias Sopal), Lobsang Palden and Yeshe Dorjee, who were held in custody, all other protesters were released, according to the report. The report also indicated that the three detainees were being held accountable as the lead activists in the May farming boycott. The report also said that the Gyune monastery was under siege, encircled by armed forces. Eight permanent residing retreat lamas of the monastery were beaten during a night raid. Retreat lamas of the Palchen monastery were also beaten, the report added.Chinese Police Arrests Two Monks again for Last year’s Peaceful ProtestTwo monks of Labdrang monastery were arrested for the second time in association with the March 2008 peaceful protest in Tibet. The Public Security Bureau (PSB) police station at Sangchu County, (Kanlho Tibet Autonomous Prefecture, incorporated into Gansu Province) detained the two monks, Tsondue Gyatso (35) and Sonam Gyatso (38), for ten days during the recent arrest. They spent four months in prison during their prior arrest. Chamdo Regional Court Sentences Three young TibetansThree Tibetans of Markham County (eastern Tibet, Chamdo Prefecture, TAR,) were sentenced to imprisonment of various terms by a regional court in Chamdo County on June1, 2009.In September of last year, the three young men apparently destroyed television-broadcasting equipment in Markham County which was telecasting abuses to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They remained in police custody from October of last year until June1, when they were sentenced to prison. Ngawang Tenzin 19, was sentenced for five years, Tenzin Rinchen 17, was sentenced for two years, and Tenzin Norbu 21, was sentenced for five years.
