15th Gyalyum Chenmo Football Tournament begins on SundayMonday, 1 June 2009, 3:30 p.m.

The 15th Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup Football tournament began on
Sunday afternoon with a grand successful opening ceremony at the
Tibetan Children’s Village School. His Eminence, the 17th
Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, was the chief guest of the
ceremony attended by hundreds of Tibetans. Other dignitaries were
Justice Commissioner Thupten Tashi Anyertsang of the Tibetan Supreme
Justice Commission, Tsering Phuntsok, Kalon for the Department of
Religion and Culture, Health Kalon Chope Paljor Tsering and Atul
Phuljhele, the Superintendent of police, Kangra district.The
ceremony started with the march past by all the teams from different
parts of India and team from Nepal. There are in total 19 teams
participating this year. The ceremony carried out with two minutes
mourning for the Tibetan martyrs.The crowd in a very high
spirit said a prayer Dhentsik Moelam. His Eminence Gyalwa Karmapa said,
“As this tournament is a memorial of the Great mother of His Holiness
the Dalai Lama so he is happy to be at the ceremony”. He said that this
Gyalyum Chenmo tournament shows the spirit of the Tibetan youngsters
and he hopes it will benefit the Tibetan youngsters”.A group of
TCV students sang an Indian patriot song ‘Yeh Bharat desh hai mera’
expressing gratitude to the people and government of India for their
kind support for the 50 years in-exile. Then a friendly match
between the Kangra district police team and TCV United was played
before the opening game of the tournament.At last the real
match began between the Tamil Nadu, Trichy Football Club and Dickyling
(Regional Tibetan Youth Congress) Football Club. Dickyling (RTYC) FC
