
ITCO, 23 March 2018, Tezpur – The Padyatra to mark the 60th year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s arrival in India concludes at Tezpur in Assam following 11-days of yatra from Chuthangmo in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Padyatris started their final leg of 11-day Padyatra from Chuthangmo on 17 March and reached Maha Bhairav temple at 9:00 am from Rangapara. They were given warm reception by people of Tezpur, Assam by offering Gamcha (Assamese traditional scarves).
Yatris followed their eminent religious head such as Guru Tulku Rinpoche and Gangkar Tulku accompanied by Shri R.K.Khrimey to century old temple of Maha Bhairav to pay their respect.
Around 10:30am yatris led a peace march to venue hall, District Library of Tezpur, 3kms through the main town of Tezpur with scores of police escort.
Yatris were served tea and snacks and the program started at 11:30am with traditional Assamese song by students and woman association by presenting welcome song. Guru Tulku Rinpoche, the Chief Guest of the program initiated the lamp offering along with other dignitaries.
Shri J.P.Agrawal, President of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch (BTSM) Tezpur gave the welcome address.
Guru Rinpoche in his talk brief about revival of cultural and religious sanctity of Himalayan with the coming of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibetan exile community to India in last 60years. He also introduces about three commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, promotion of human values, promotion of religious values and preservation of Tibetan Buddhist culture-a culture of peace and non vioilence. Prof.Jai Shankar Hazarika, Principal of Darrang college in Tezpur invoke Assamese audiences in their own vernacular language implying people’s support for the cause of Tibet which is struggle for truth and justice.
Guest of honour, Gangkar Tulku Rinpoche extended his gratitude to the people of Tawang, West Kameng and Tezpur for organising and felicitating this Padyatra which started on 17 March from Chuthangmo till Tezpur, with the aim of reminding His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s arduous journey into exile 60 years back.
Geshe Lobsang Sherab, khenpo of Bomdila Monastery also gave talk to audience of around 300 audiences comprising padyatris and Assamese. Regional convener of Core Group for Tibetan Cause from UP, Shri Sunderlal Suman relating his experience of 11days Padyatra said that he have not seen God in hus lifetime but when he saw His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, he strongly believe that God must be like him.
Special guest, Shri R.K.Khrimey, National Convenor of Core Group for Tibetan Cause and the leader of padyatra stated that since the padyatra started 10days ago from Chuthangmo at Tibet border and crossing the arduous journey to Tezpur yatris are blessed with no health issues of or any unfortunate incidents.
Monks and nuns of Tawang gompa offered Prayer of truth and world peace. Mr.Lhundup Choesang, BTSM Tawang President gave the thank you note with felicitation of BTSM members of Tezpur including Women wing by mother of present Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Mrs. Rinchen Dreme with khatak and His Holiness portrait.
Guru Tulku Rinpoche also felicitated 50 odd padyatris who will be going back to respective region from Tezpur.
The program ended at 2pm with lunch organised at Marwari Dharamsala on NC Road, Tezpur.
