Deputy Speaker Attends Human Rights Conference at European Parliament Friday, 1 May 2009, 4:16 p.m.
Dharamshala: The deputy speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, Mrs. Dolma Gyari, is attending a conference on ‘the Promotion of Human Rights by EU Institutions’ in Brussels at the European Parliament, which has begun 30 April and go on till 2 May.The conference is organised by Inter Parliamentary Group On Tibet, Italy, Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty. Antonio Taiani, EU Commissioner, Guy Verhofstadt, former Minister of Belgium and former EU Commissioner and Vincenzo Scotti, Italian Under Secretary of State for Human Rights are participating in the conference. Mrs. Gyari has extended her trip till 5 May following her meeting with the Italian parliamentarians and other officials in Italy. Earlier Deputy Speaker participated in a three-day biennial conference on democracy in capital Turin of Piemonte, Italy, from 22-24 April. Mrs. Gyari had also visited Sicily, Salemi and Rome from 25 to 29 April. In photos:
