
DHARAMSHALA: Home Kalon Dolma Gyari visited south India to assess the condition of the Tibetans living in the state in view of the recent unfortunate incident in which Tenzin Dhargyal, a Tibetan student, was stabbed in Mysore.
On 19 August, Kalon Dolma Gyari met Tenzin Dhargyal at Krishna Rajendra hospital in Mysore and expressed best possible support for his further treatment. Meanwhile, the doctors said there was no danger to Tenzin’s life.
Later in the evening, Kalon Dolma Gyari met with Mr Anwar Manipaddy, chairman of Karnataka State Minority Commission, in Bangalore.
Following the meeting, she attended a meeting of Tibetan college students and state government’s top officials at TCV youth hostel. Mr R Ashok, deputy chief minister cum home minister, and police commissioners, said the people from north-eastern states and Tibetans living in Karnataka need not worry because the state government would ensure full security for them. Kalon Dolma Gyari thanked the Indian leadership personally meeting with Tibetan students.
On 20 August, Kalon Gyari Dolma also convened a meeting of members of parliaments based in south India, settlement officers, chairman of Federation of Tibetan Co-operatives Ltd, director of Nilamangalam Vocational Training Centre and entire staff of the Chief Representative’s Office. She took note of the efforts made by them to deal with the recent crisis and discussed with them the future course of action.
On 21 August, Kalon Dolma Gyari met Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok at his office and thanked the state government for making special efforts to restore normalcy in the state. She also informed him about her plans to visit Tibetan settlements located in the state from 22 August.
Kalon Dolma Gyari visited Tibetan settlements in Kollegal, Hunsur, Bylakuppe and Mundgod from 22 – 25 August, and gave keynote addresses to the settlers.
