Hunsur: The intensive five-month course on Tibetan language and Buddhist studies began today in Hunsur, Karnataka.
Gyumed Monastery’s Khen Rinpoche Geshe Wangdue, Hunsur settlement officer, representative of the Department of Culture and Religion, and esteemed teachers of School of Snowland Tibetan Studies attended the opening ceremony.
Khen Rinpoche emphasised the importance of learning Tibet’s centuries-old Buddhist philosophy and inculcating them as a daily practice.
The workshop is initially held between the month of July-December, however, due to the prevailing pandemic situation, the workshop was decided to be held from October-February.
A total number of 40 applicants registered for the workshop whereas only 25 have been able to come for the course due to the outbreak.
The workshop primarily focuses on basic Tibetan grammar, Tibetan religious history, Buddhist dialectics, Buddhist philosophy, etc.
The Snowland school for Tibetan studies was formally inaugurated on 7 December 2011. It was established after His His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s recommendation during his visit to Gyudmey monastery in 2007, to begin a school specially designed to meet the needs of students wishing to study Buddhism and Tibetan culture in India.
This program is organised by the Department of Religion and Culture in collaboration with the School of Snowland Tibetan Studies, Gyudmed Monastery based in Hunsur.
