In 2011, during the 11th Religious Conference, His Holiness the Dalai Lama provided detailed guidance on preserving, maintaining, and promoting the teachings of Buddhism. Accordingly, in 2013, the Department of Religion and Culture invited representatives of fifty major monasteries and nunneries from all Buddhist schools to a conference to discuss how to further advance Buddhist studies and practices. Following detailed discussions, a resolution was adopted to hold programmes to introduce modern science to religious institutions that didn’t have science classes. Consequently, the department began hosting successive Workshops to introduce Modern Science to the monks in collaboration with the LTWA.
