Bengaluru: The Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) is conducting a two-day workshop on 20 – 21 December 2025 at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education in South India. An orientation session was held on 19 December to outline the objectives and foster open engagement among participants.
Thirty-five Tibetan students from Bangalore, Mangalore, and Bylakuppe are attending the program, which seeks to enhance understanding of the Middle Way Policy among Tibetan youth in the region.
The workshop commenced with an address by Tenzin Lekshay, Additional Secretary of DIIR, who provided a comprehensive overview of the Middle Way Policy. He underscored its significance and urged participants to remain informed about developments in Tibet and global political dynamics, emphasising their role as advocates for Tibetans inside Tibet.
Lekshay highlighted that the Middle Way Policy, initiated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, was later passed by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile through a public referendum, making it the official policy of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). He expressed confidence that such initiatives will cultivate informed future leaders and activists, encouraging them to assume greater responsibility in addressing the Sino-Tibet issue.
The workshop features interactive sessions, group activities, and discussions facilitated by Tenzin Kunkhen and Rinchen from DIIR’s Tibet Advocacy Section.
On the evening of 20 December, a panel discussion titled “Current Situation in Tibet” was held at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education. Panellists included Tenzin Lekshay on the Middle Way Policy, Tenzin Kunkhen on human rights in Tibet, and Dhondup Wangmo from the Tibet Policy Institute on the environmental significance of the Tibetan Plateau. The session was moderated by Ngawang Gyatso, Dean of Regular Studies. Approximately 100 students and faculty members participated in the discussion, which featured active engagement and a robust Q&A session.
The workshop will conclude on 21 December 2025. Following its completion, the DIIR delegation will proceed to Mysuru to deliver Tibet Awareness and Umaylam Awareness talks in the Tibetan settlements of Hunsur and Bylakuppe.
