Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay addressed a press conference of more than 60 media persons at the Kalachakra today.

The Chinese government’s continued refusal to grant autonomy to the Tibetan people, in itself shows, that the Tibetans are different from the Chinese people, said the Kalon Tripa. They have given autonomy to Hong Kong and Macau but not to Tibet because we are Tibetans, not Chinese, he added.

Accompanied by Kalon Dicki Chhoyang of the Department of Information and International Relations, Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay said that he is fortunate to have got the opportunity to attend the 32nd Kalachakra.

“More than 150,000 people from 63 countries had come for the Kalachakra. Among them, more than 8000 are Tibetans from Tibet and about 1000 are Chinese from Mainland China” he said.

He also spoke about the growth of Buddhism in China and said that there is an estimated 200-300 million Buddhists in China.

Answering questions from the reporters, Kalon Tripa talked about the policies of the Central Tibetan Administration and solving the Tibet issue through a non violent and democratic way.

Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay also stressed on the importance of the Middle Way Approach and the continuation of the negotiations between the Chinese government and the Tibetan delegates.
