MOSCOW: The XIth Panchen Lama Gendun Chokyi Nyima’s 27th Birthday was commemorated at the Sakharov centers exhibition hall in Moscow. The exhibition was organised by the Office of Tibet Moscow, Tibet house, Moscow and Save Tibet Foundation, Russia.
On the occasion of Panchen Lama’s Birthday, Tibet House Moscow released newly translated book “Lineage of Panchen Lama: How the Reincarnation is Being Reinvented as a Political Tool” which was initially published by Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR)
The gathering was attended by many Tibet supporters. Addresing the gathering, Honorary Representative Telo Tulku Rinpoche said: “To this day, the Tibetans have been denied of their rights for culture preservation and promotion of their rich heritage, the 10th Panchen lama was a spiritual warrior and openly criticised Communist China’s policy in Tibet. But Unfortunately he died under suspicious circumstances. The 11 Panchen was recognised by H.H. the Dalai Lama and was immediately arrested and since then his whereabouts in unknown to this day. Today is a happy day but at the same time, a sad day for all. Happy that the Panchen Lama was reincarnated and came to our world to benefit all sentient beings, sad that all Tibetans are forced to denounce Panchen Lama recognised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and follow the Chinese appointed Panchen.
Nadya Berkengeym, Vice president of Tibet House, Moscow said that “it is a less known fact that last year Russia celebrated the 250th anniversary since Buddhism was recognised as one of the official religions of Russia by Catherine the Great, Russia’s Empress and longest ruling female leader of all Russia.” She further noted “The Panchen lama’s release can affect the future Dalai Lama as well because historically the reincarnation of the two was recognised by each other”
The gathering ended with a moment of silence in prayers and meditation.
