Week-long seminars in 2 states highlight Tibet issue

Dharamshala: The Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh chapters of India-Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS), in coordination with the New Delhi-based India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO), organized a series of seminars on Tibet’s Freedom and ‘Sino-Indian Border’ Conflicts in five different places of the two states in between 15 to 21 August.
Mr Tsering Dorjee, ITCO Coordinator, and Dr. Manoj Kumar, National Organiser of ITFS in New Delhi, attended and presided over all the events.
ITFS Maharashtra, on 15 August, celebrated the 60th Independence Day at North Point Convent School, Nagpur. Some 100 students and teachers from the nearby schools attended the event with much enthusiasm and interest. Later on 16 August, a similar event was held at the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology of Nagpur University.
ITFS Maharashtra held a day-long event on Arunachal Bachao at Bhandara on 17 August, showcasing the crucial importance of Tibet in the ongoing ‘Sino-Indian border’ conflicts. People well versed on the facts of Tibet, most notably teachers and government officials, actively participated in the discussions on various aspects of Tibet issue.
On his part, Tsering Dorjee gave a detailed explanation to queries and misconceptions on the Tibet issue that came forth during the discussions. The seminar concluded by summing up a general consensus on various future programs, including the need to hold more such events in the region.
A similar week-long event at Chandrapur in Maharashtra, begining 19 August, also drew a large participation from the local people. During the event, on 21 August, following a welcome speech by Ajay Khere of ITFS Riva Madhya Pradesh, Chief Guest Tsering Dorjee and Dr. Manoj Kumar addressed an enthusiastic crowd of some 200 people on various issues of Tibet. The event was a successful conclusion of week-long seminars held at various locations in the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
