Dharamsala, 17 April: The Central Tibetan Administration will request the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) to call off its indefinite hunger strike, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa told the VOT radio service.
Acknowledging the spirit and will of TYC strikers the Kalon Tripa said, ” We express our solidarity and appreciation for their determination and selfless sacrifice. Sitting on hunger strike is not easy at all. But the Central Tibetan Administration can not involve itself in the activities of the TYC owing to our conflicting approaches to the Tibet issue”, he told VOT.
The Kalon Tripa said that such activities may lead to some temporary publicity but will not bear any fruitful results in today’s geopolitical situation.
He said that the hunger strike should be called off before the condition of the three strikers deteriorates.
“Our hope is that the hunger strike is called off and we will make a request to this effect”.
The Kalon Tripa expressed his pleasure as TYC’s demands this time are more apolitical in nature.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, while visiting the six unto – death hunger strikers of TYC in New Delhi in 1998, had said that he condemns all acts of violence and that harming oneself by not taking food was also a form of violence.
