We still haven’t learnt from the last war: Chairman of ATPD
Dharamsala, 31 March, 2003: The budget session of the 13th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies ended. In his concluding speech, the Chairperson, Mr Pema Jugney congratulated the members for having discussed a wide range of issues in a short period of time.
At the same time, he expressed concern at the trend that was witnessed during the session. The Chairperson said that it would be an impediment for the progress of the whole community if we ignore the sanctity of law and give priority to one’s self-interest. He pointed out the tendency to disregard common interest during the session. He hoped the concerned members would discard such attitude in the future. In order to establish a ‘meaningful democracy’, he urged the representatives to always keep the common interest in mind.
The Chairperson lamented the ongoing war in Iraq. He said, “The last great war left behind many dead and caused immense suffering. Still we haven’t learnt anything. The present war in Iraq will no doubt affect the whole world.â€ÂÂÂ
The next session will be held after six months.
