Washington DC: Under Secretary Uzra Zeya convened her first official meeting with the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Central Tibetan Administration to North America Namgyal Choedup today Wednesday December 22,2021 after being designated as the US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues.

Representative Choedup at the beginning, offered her the Tibetan traditional scarf ‘khatak’ to congratulate her on behalf of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) and thanked President Biden and Secretary Blinken for their swift decision on her appointment.  Representative gave a brief update on the current situation inside Tibet and presented the Central Tibetan Administration’s concerns to the Special Coordinator Uzra Zeya.

Under Secretary Zeya congratulated the Representative on his new position and saw this auspicious because both she and the Representative are new in their respective positions and can work closely together on Tibetan issues.

Under Secretary Zeya also spoke of her eagerness to visit India to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and CTA officials in the coming months

Representative thanked her for the time and support and looks forward to continuing working with her.
