Geneva: Ambassador Andrew Bremberg, Permanent Representive of the US to the Office of the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva met with Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration, Chhimey Rigzen and Special Appointee for Human Rights Thinlay Chukki yesterday, 30 September 2020 at the US Mission-Geneva.
During the meeting, which lasted over an hour, the delegation briefed Ambassador Bremberg on wide ranging issues including the egregious human rights violations taking place in Tibet especially the recent reports of militarized forced labour of over half a million Tibetans by China, the persecution of Tibetan Buddhists including enforced disappearance of Panchen Lama since last 25 years, China’s continuous attempts to control the sacred practice of reincarnation as well as the rising threat posed by China to the global peace and stability.
Meeting on the eve of the 71st anniversary of formation of People’s Republic of China under the authoritarian rule of the Chinese Communist Party, Ambassador Bremberg assured strong support to the Tibetans’ struggle for freedom and justice.
Thanking Ambassador Bremberg and the US Mission, Representative Chhimey Rigzen noted that, “the US is an all-weather friend and a strong supporter of the just cause of Tibetans. We are very grateful to Ambassador Bremberg for giving us time and intently listening to the situation inside Tibet. We hope that this will send a strong message of support to other countries and missions in Geneva.”
Noting on the particulars of the human rights issues, Thinlay Chukki stated that “with the exit of the US from the UN Human Rights Council, we have lost a strong vocal supporter of Tibet inside the Council. However, the US has always prioritized the unalienable human rights and continues to raise voice against the cultural genocide and persecution of Tibetans through repressive policies by the Chinese Communist Party Regime. It is time the UN member states unite in single voice against China’s repeated attempts to dismantle the core principles of human rights and the international human rights system.”
