Upper TCV Organises Inter House Ache Lhamo Competition in Honour of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 89th Birthday Celebration

Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration, as the chief guest, graced the Inter-house Ache Lhamo (Tibetan Opera) Competition, at Hermann Gmeiner Hall in Upper TCV, Dharamshala, on 29 May 2024.

Upon his arrival, Sikyong was warmly welcomed by TCV President Sonam Sichoe, General Secretary Choenyi Dhondup, Education Director Ngawang Lhamo, Director Tsultrim Dorjee, Principal Tenzin Choekyi, and the students. Mr. Kunchok Migmar, Dharamshala Tibetan Settlement Officer, also attended the event as a special guest.

This year’s Inter House Lhamo competition was dedicated to honouring His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 89th birthday anniversary.

Songtsen House performed Nangsa Woebum, Trisong House performed Sug Kyi Nyima, Triral House performed Choegyal Norsang, and Nyatri House performed Dowa Sangmo. Each house gave the best of their performances, but the Nyatri House was announced as the winner of this year’s Lhamo competition. Sikyong Penpa Tsering felicitated the winner and the participants.
In his keynote speech, Sikyong Penpa Tsering acknowledged and appreciated the objective behind the Tibetan Opera competition. He emphasised the importance of safeguarding the rich and unique heritages of Tibet, including the tradition of Lhamo, in line with the noble motives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
In conclusion, Sikyong encouraged the school to play a responsible role in preserving the unique Tibetan culture and tradition.
