Drakgo (Ch: Luhuo) County, Karze “TAP” (incorporated into a Chinese province of Sichuan) – All nuns expelled from Samten Ling nunnery
All the nuns of Samten Ling nunnery in Drakgo county were expelled from the nunnery to their respective homes at around 4:00 p.m. on 27 June.
This was mainly caused by the incident when all the nuns went to support the peaceful protest staged by Tsering Tso, a nun from the same nunnery, on 8 June. However, they were stopped on the way and then confined to their nunnery for around 19 days during which they were forced to undergo “patriotic re-education”.
As the “patriotic re-education” classes were met with continued opposition from the nuns, the Chinese authorities expelled and handed over all of them to their respective families on 27 June. At present, only an attendant is left in the nunnery.
During the protest on 8 June, Tsering Tso and Ugyen Lhamo were arrested and are being detained. Although the Chinese authorities have denied the arrest of another nun, Guru, she has been missing after the protest.
