UPDATE: His Holiness in Rekong Peo

Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived at Sangla in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, 7 June.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was received by an advisor of the Kinnaur Buddhist Association, Chokgyen Rinpoche, MLA Mr. Jaggit Negi, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Arman Deep, Superintendent of Police Mr. Arvind Sharda and other official heads at the Helipad of the Jai Prakash Hydel Project Limited (JPHPL).
As requested by the chairman of the JPHPL, Mr. Jai Prakash Gaur, His Holiness blessed and sanctified the Jai Prakash Hydel Project.
Yesterday His Holiness the Dalai Lama consecrated Sangla’s Kunga Choeling Monastery, which was renovated recently. His Holiness also gave a short introduction to Buddhism at the place and later in the evening His Holiness left for Kalpa, Rekong Peo (Himachal Pradesh).
Today in Rekong Peo, His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave teachings on the Abridged Stages of the Path (Lamrim Dudon).
His Holiness the Dalai Lama conferred the Kalachakra in Rekong Peo in 1992 and he is visiting the place after 13 years.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama stressed on the importance of respecting others religions and maintaining a harmonious society. He said that he does not agree with conversion though it is important to understand and respect other religions also.
Emphasising the importance of preserving ones’ religious traditions; His Holiness said that Tibet, Thailand, Singapore and Bhutan have inherited Buddhism from their ancestors and it is their duty to preserve it. His Holiness appreciated the people of Kalpa region for preserving their inherited Buddhist traditions so well all these years.
His Holiness also explained the concept of morality and said that every living being has to meet death one day and it is part of our life. He said that he was in his 50s when he visited the place for the first time and now he is in 70s.
His Holiness will continue his teachings tomorrow and will confer the Avalokiteshvera Initiation on 11June.
