DHARAMSHALA: Two nuns of Dhargye nunnery in Karze in eastern Tibet have been arrested for demanding freedom in Tibet and return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Choesang, 31, and Peltruk, 34, staged a peaceful demonstration around 9 am on 19 June in the main market of Karze calling for the “Long Life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”, “Freedom in Tibet”, and “Immediate return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet”. They distributed pamphlets demanding freedom in Tibet.
They were immediately detained by the police and severely beaten before being jailed.
The two nuns are not allowed to meet their family members and are said to be suffering severe torture in prison.
Choesang and Peltruk are from Shitse township, in Karze, Tibet.
