CHANDIGARH: In an attempt to show their solidarity towards the cause of Tibet, around 108 Tibetan students of Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) school ended their peaceful 80 kilometre march from Bir to Dharamsala via Palampur on Saturday. The students, aged between 10-15 years, had decided to hold a two-day long peaceful march in memory of the 96 Tibetans who had immolated themselves in Tibet. Some students, carrying pictures of the self-immolators – were distant relatives of Tibetans who had immolated self seeking freedom in Tibet.
Kunchok, one of the student leaders is related to Gudrup (21) who immolated self in Driru township of Kham region of Eastern Tibet. “Gudrup lived in our locality I had known him and I can’t believe he gave his life for Tibet. I can’t do much as a student, so I am leading this march,” he said
“This March is an act of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Tibet and as students, this is our tribute to the 96 self-immolations,” he added.
Kalsang, another student leader said: “All students had blisters on their feet by the end of the march, but we decided that it was nothing compared to the pain and sufferring of our brothers who ended their lives seeking freedom for our Tibet.”
