TSGs conference agrees to reinforce support for Tibetan cause

Dharamshala: Observing year 2007 as the Year of Intensive Support to Tibetan Cause and to reinforce the existing support for the Tibetan cause are some of the priorities drawn in action plan adopted at the Second All India Tibet Support Groups’ conference held at Bodh Gaya from 13-15 October 2006.
There were around 280 delegates who took full participation in the conference.
The dignitaries present at the conference were Kalon Tripa, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, Karma Choephel, core group convenor, Dr, N.K. Trikha, Dr. Anand Kumar, and prominent Gandhian thinker and environmentalist, Sundar-Lal-Bahugna, all of whom expressed their views on how to enhance the Tibet issue.
For the whole three days they held discussions on Tibet’s political issue, how the issue could be raised in the parliament.
The regional working groups discussed issues ranging from increasing support for Tibet in India, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, development and environmental issues, to the human rights situation in Tibet.
Bashist Narayan, Member of Parliament and Convenor of the All Party Indian Parliamentary forum for Tibet, and Dr. Raghuvansh P Singh, Union Cabinet Minister for Rural Development, graced the 2nd day of the conference.
The day ended with a cultural performance by the students of the Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies in Varanasi.
The third day was devoted to the adoption of the action plan.
