‘Mind and life Dialogue- Reimagining human flourishing’, concluded on 16 March 2018 at the Thekchen Choeling, Dharamshala, India. The 33rd installment of the dialogue witnessed a coming together of scholars and scientists from different parts of the world to discuss and contemplate on the ways to incorporate and introduce secular ethics, compassion, love and forgiveness in the education of today’s youth. His Holiness the Dalai Lama, one of the founders of the Mind and Life Institute and the pioneer of the dialogue between science and religion, attended and enthusiastically participated in the conference throughout the five days. The conference was streamed live via the website of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, website of Mind and Life Institute and Facebook page of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the benefit of those interested.
Thousands of people who watched the live stream of the 5 day conference shared their experiences and voiced their opinion via multiple social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Some also went on to relate their own experiences in the schools with the presentation from the scholars and scientists.
Facebook user named, Lilia Garcia Sanchez wrote, ‘I am a Kindergarten teacher and I agree that teachers need to develop mindful awareness and keep safe emotional health’ in response to a presentation on the final day of the conference.
Concurring to a presentation by Sonia Lupen, who spoke on the how the students with domestic problems faced difficultly because of stress, Melissa Janssens wrote, ‘I would agree! Being a child of a divorce in 1978 has completely stumped me and my 3 sibling in our knowledge of many things! My educated sister and I talk of this a lot!’
A Twitter user, Michael Andjelic tweeted his appreciation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s efforts in bringing secular ethics and compassion in the modern day education system. He wrote, “I am pleased to hear of your intention to dialogue ethics and compassion in education. My study of virtue ethics reinforces my belief in ethics as the core foundation of a holy life. I have a very good book called ‘The family virtues guide’. It has helped me a lot”.
An Instagram user, named suemoonsum, thanked His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his teachings and how His Holiness’ book on secular ethics positively affected his outlook on life. Suemoonsum wrote, “Thank you for your teachings, your Holiness. Your book, ‘Beyond Religion: Ethics for a whole world’ changed my thinking about others as well as myself. I am grateful for your insight and thoughtful work on behalf of all people everywhere”.
