Dharamshala: As
part of its four-day celebration of golden jubilee, the Tibetan
Institute of Performing Arts presented a repertoire of Tibet’s Nangma Toeshey
or traditional opera songs to an exclusive audience of officials of the
Central Tibetan Administration on Thursday night’s musical gala.
Representative from the government of India’s Liaison Office attended
the event.A group of former artists and members of the Tibetan
Institute of Arts, who were specially invited to attend the landmark
event, also showcased their talent in Tibetans opera songs and dances.An
adaptation of the introduction of Buddhism in Tibet in the eighth
century during the reign of King Trisong Deutsen was screened at the
beginning.

In
his brief address, Mr Tenzin Gyeche Tethong, former director of the
institute, lauded all the past and present artists and staff members
for their efforts in the successful preservation and promotion of
Tibet’s unique theatrical arts and culture in its pristine form.Mr
Tethong, who played an inspirational role in sustaining the institute
in its initial stage in 1960s, also emphasised the need to preserve all
other aspects of Tibet’s culture and tradition.On behalf of the
administration, Mr Migyur Dorjee, Secretary of the Kashag Secretariat,
extended heartfelt appreciation to the Tibetan Institute of Performing
for hosting the event. He honoured TIPA’s director Mr Wangchuk Phasur
