Canberra: The rich cultural heritage of Tibet was showcased at Australia’s National Multicultural Festival 2026, held from 6 to 8 February 2026.
The Tibetan Cultural Centre Ltd, an undertaking of the Tibet Information Office, displayed traditional Tibetan Buddhist ritual objects, Thangkas (Tibetan appliqués), and colourful prayer flags, and distributed books by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, highlighting the significance of the Year of Compassion — a global initiative marking His Holiness’s 90th birthday and promoting kindness, peace, and harmony worldwide.
The Tibetan community also showcased Tibet’s distinct culture through vibrant performances and participation in the Cultural Parade, with compassion and harmony as the central message. Waving Tibetan flags, members of the community — including students from Tibetan Language Schools in Canberra and Sydney — joined the parade, followed by Yak and Tashi Sholpa dancers, delighting audiences with their colourful display of cultural heritage and tradition.
The local Tibetan community’s momo stall was a highlight of the festival, drawing large crowds. The stall was also visited by the ACT Chief Minister, the Hon. Andrew Barr, who enjoyed a couple of momos, experiencing a taste of traditional Tibetan cuisine firsthand.
The festival, which celebrates cultural diversity across Australia, offered visitors an opportunity to experience Tibet’s rich cultural heritage and embrace its enduring values of peace and compassion.
