Dharamshala: Thousands of Tibetans gathered at the Tsuglagkhang, the main temple, Tuesday morning to offer prayers to the families affected in the earthquake that struck Gyaldar township of Dhamshung county and neighbouring areas west of Lhasa on 6 October.The 6.6-magnitude earthquake has left ten people confirmed dead and 34 injured, besides causing heavy damage to property, China’s official Xinhua news agency reported.

Today’s special mass prayer organised by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee was presided over by the senior monks of Namgyal Monastery.The speaker, deputy speaker and members of the standing committee of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, secretaries of the department of the Central Tibetan Administration attended the mass prayer.While addressing the prayer congregation, Speaker Karma Chophel said: “We are saddened by the loss of lives, casualties and destruction caused by this natural calamity. Our sincere prayers go to all affected family members and their relatives.”The speaker said His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s prayers will definitely bring solace and relief to all those who were affected by the earthquake.
