Sao Paulo, Brazil: On Saturday afternoon, the Tibetan community, jointly with the Palas Athena Association, in the capital of São Paulo state, celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize conferment to His Holiness the Dalai Lama by launching His Holiness’ illustrated children’s book “THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF HIS HOLINESS THE FOURTEENTH DALAI LAMA: An Illuminated Journey.”
Written by Rima Fujita, a famous Japanese artist, the Portuguese version was published by Palas Athena and Tibet House Brasil. The publication was funded by the Tibet Religious Foundation of H.H. the Dalai Lama in Taipei, Taiwan.
Prof. Lia Diskin, co-founder and Director of Associação Palas Athena Institute, commenced the ceremony. She is an internationally well-known Padma Shri Awardee recognised for her work in favour of Human Rights. She is a writer and received the 2006 UNESCO Prize in Human Rights and Culture of Peace. She is a member of the World Wildlife Fund – World Fund for Nature and co-organizer for the four visits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Latin America, especially Brazil.
In her opening address, she reminded the importance of Human Rights for the Tibetan people and all humanity and how much His Holiness the Dalai Lama symbolises the non-violent struggle and protection of these rights.
A video featuring His Holiness being awarded the Nobel Prize in 1989 was broadcasted to the gathering along with a video depicting the friendship between His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
A special virtual concert was arranged featuring Tibetan musician and singer Loten Namling from Geneva.
Representative Jigme Tsering delivered the closing remarks reminding practising the values propagated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He thanked Tibet House Brazil (THB) supporters for their participants who have committed to preserving and promoting Tibet’s unique spiritual and cultural heritage. He presented each of the children present at the event with a copy of the newly launched book.
