Tokyo: The Tibetan community in Japan along with Uyghurs, South Mongolians, Hong Kongers, and other repressed communities around the world observed the 75th anniversary of Human Rights Day and a peace march in Shinjuku, Tokyo today.
Tashi Yangzom, Secretary of the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Japan & East Asia, read the message of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in English on the occasion and Naoko Hasegawa of the Tibet House Japan read the Japanese translation of the message.
In the message, His Holiness said, “The declaration affirms that all human beings have the right to freedom from want and freedom from fear. These human rights are inclusive, interdependent, and universal. We need effective international action to address global issues from the perspective of the oneness of humanity and a profound understanding of the deeply interconnected nature of our world.”
Representatives from more than 12 nations and communities spoke at length about the prevailing human rights violations taking place in their respective countries. Representatives from the Chinese democracy movement, Japan Uyghur Association, Southern Mongolia Kuriltai, and Hong Kong Democracy called upon the international community to take note of the CCP`s atrocities and destruction of democracy. Other repressed community representatives from Myanmar, Cambodia, Ukraine, Iran, Belarus, Taiwan, North Korea, etc. have expressed their concern and requested the world leaders to make violation of human rights in their regions raised at the Universal Periodic Review at Geneva next year.
A peace march with around 200 people was conducted starting from Shinjuku Central Park and covering the main city of Shinjuku with the flags of the participating communities and slogans were raised to draw people’s attention.
