Moscow: Some fifty people, including Russian Buddhists and Tibetans, based in Russia gathered in Moscow’s “Open Center” club to mark the 18th anniversary of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the sixty-first United Nations declaration of universal human rights on 10 December. The function was organised by the office of Tibet (Tibet Culture and Information Centre).
While addressing the gathering, Representative Mr Tashi said His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been honoured with more than one hundred awards and honorary degrees, including Nobel Peace Prize and the US Congressional gold medal for his untiring efforts in promoting world peace, inter-religious harmony and universal responsibility.
Condemning China’s continuous violation of the human rights in Tibet, despite being a member country of the UN and a permanent member of Security Council, he urged the UN to be more effective in its concern to improve the human rights situations in Tibet.
During the function, the attendants offered prayer for the long life of His Holiness and peaceful resolution of the issue of Tibet.
The Russian translation of the Middle-Way Policy of the Central Tibetan Administration and other publications were distributed. This was followed by screening of a documentary film “Russia -Tibet Time and Space” based on cultural and historical relations between Tibet and Russia.
