Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: In commemoration of three concurrent occasions—the 36th anniversary of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama, International Human Rights Day, and the Year of Compassion—the Tibetan Association of Philadelphia organised a peace rally for Tibet on 10 December 2025.
According to the Association, the peace rally was held that morning in front of Philadelphia City Hall and was attended by local residents, Tibet supporters, and friends of Tibet. In his address, the Association’s President, Tsering Gyurme, underscored the responsibility of Tibetans to safeguard Tibet’s unique cultural heritage and to continue the peaceful struggle for Tibet. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to all who have long championed the Tibetan cause and remain steadfast in their support.
Several prominent officials and legislators—including Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro, U.S. Senator John Fetterman, and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker—expressed their support for the rally marking the 36th anniversary of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They also offered written messages commending His Holiness’s lifelong commitment to peace and non-violence.
In addition, President Tsering Gyurme expressed appreciation for six non-governmental organisations that organised a peaceful car caravan the same day, travelling from Philadelphia to United Nations Headquarters in New York as part of the day’s commemorative initiatives.
