Tibetan Women’s Association starts conference today
Dharamsala, 2 April 2003: 150 women representatives from thirty two different chapters of Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) met in the hall of the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute today to participate in the week long 7th general body meeting of the Association.
Although much of Dharamsala was engrossed in the festive spirit of Shoton taking place at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, however Tibetan women. from far and near, started their conference by apprising the gathering of their yearly activities in their respective areas.
The former Kalon Tripa, Mr. Kelsang Yeshi was the chief guest during the morning ceremony. Chitue Ms. Tsering Norzom, a member of the Tibetan parliament and a special adviser and former president of the Association, was also present as the guest of honor.
The Tibetan Women’s Association was first founded on 12 March 1959. Presently it has 43 regional associations spread across the world. Three new chapters were were in the last three years of the present executives.
