
Zurich, Switzerland: On 17 January 2026, the tenth cultural competition for weekend Tibetan language and cultural schools under the Tibetan Community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein (TCSL) was held in Uster, in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland.
The event was attended by Tenzin Choesang, a staff member of the Tibet Bureau in Geneva; Karma Choekyi, Director of Tibetan Schools under TCSL; and Kangrang Kalsang Namgyal, Vice President of TCSL.
The programme commenced with the singing of the Tibetan national anthem, followed by a minute’s silence in remembrance and solemn tribute to the Tibetan martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of Tibet and the Tibetan people.
Following this, Director Karma Choekyi delivered a welcome address and introduced the programme for the day.
During the event, Tenzin Choesang spoke on the critical importance of preserving the Tibetan language and culture. She commended the students, teachers, and parents for cherishing their linguistic and cultural heritage, which has enabled the smooth implementation of the weekend schools’ curricula. She also congratulated the students participating in the competition.
The gathering was also addressed by Vice President Kangrang Kalsang Namgyal.
A total of 21 weekend Tibetan schools from across the region participated in the cultural competition. The competition was divided into three categories: group songs, junior dance, and senior dance. Prizes were awarded to the top performers in each category.
