Tibetan to Participate in SAARC Literary Conference
Dharamsala, 18 February 2005: The SAARC Literary Conference 2005 which begins today in New Delhi will feature Tibetan poet and activist Tenzin Tsundue. Tsundue has been invited by Sahitya (literature)
Academy of the Indian ministry of Human Resource Development which organises the conference.
The three-day conference will be participated by writers and poets from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka,Pakistan and Maldives.
Former Prime Minister I.K Gujral, famous Urdu lyricists Gulzar and Javed Akhtar will also be attending the conference.
On asked about his participation in the conference, Tsundue told Voice of Tibet radio service that it is a rare opportunity for him to attend the conference and represent Tibet.
Tsundue will also read some of his poems at the poetry reading session of the conference. Tsundue earlier won the Outlook Picador award for his essay, My Kind of Exile.
Tsundue told VOT that his name was followed by “Tibet” on the invitation sent to him which he believes is a great honour.
