Dharamshala: Under the direction of the Education Department of the Central Tibetan Administration, the children from the Central School for Tibetans (CST), Paonta Sahib, participated online in the 7th Annual General assembly of the Children’s United Parliament of the World (CUPW) held in Tunisia from 17 October to 14 November 2005.
The event was organised by the General Assembly of the CUPW as a parallel event of the World Summit on the Information Society.
The children participants from across the world could either act as children’s parliamentarians in the general assembly or could take part only in the children’s dialogue which consisted of two events– a practise session for 3 weeks from 17 October to 14 November, and the actual internet meeting from 15-17 November.
The Tibetan students met on-line with their counterpart in Tunisia and shared their ideas and views on various topics and issues concerning child labour, human rights, democracy, terrorism, and global warming.
“Students used this opportunity to raise issues related to Tibet including Panchen Lama, environmental destruction, violation of human right etc in Tibet,” accoding to a press release issued by the CST Paonta.
“Such event serve as an effective medium to collaborate and share ideas and experiences with the like-minded children from around the world,” it added.
