Dharamshala: While responding to the media questions at the meet the media held at the Lhakpa Tsering Memorial Hall, Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) last Friday, Mr. Sonam N. Dagpo, Secretary of the International Relations of the DIIR said “His Holiness the Dalai Lama is committed to the Middle-Way Approach (MWA) for peacefully resolving the issue of Tibet.
“His Holiness the Dalai Lama has said many times that he is not seeking independence for Tibet but demand genuine autonomy for Tibet within the constitutional framework of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
“Yet the Chinese government still call His Holiness a separatist and hold him responsible for splitting the Chinese territory and compromising the sovereignty of China”.
Mr. Dagpo also said that Tibet refers to the combined territories of U-Tsang, Kham and Amdo provinces, which has 2.5 million square kilometres, and does not refer to the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), which consist of U-Tsang and a small portion of Kham with 1.2 million square kilometres, and 1/3rd of the total Tibetan population.
