Tibetan Solidarity Committee extends condolences to families affected in Tibet QuakeWednesday, 8 October 2008, 3:17 p.m.
Dharamshala: The Tibetan Solidarity Committee today extended its deep condolences to the families affected in the earthquake that hit Gyaldar township of Dhamshung county and neighbouring areas west of Lhasa at 4.30 p.m. on Monday. “We are saddened by the loss of lives, casualties and destruction caused by this natural calamity. Our sincere prayers go to all the affected family members and their relatives,” Mr Karma Chophel, chairman of the Tibetan Solidarity Committee, said in its condolence message.He said: “As a mark of solidarity in this hour of grief and sadness for all those who have been affected by this devastating quake, special mass prayers will be held in all the Tibetan Settlements and Tibetan concentrated areas both in and outside Tibet on the full-moon day of the eighth month of the Tibetan calendar i.e. October 14, 2008.” According to news reports, in the earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale, at least 9 people are feared killed, more than one hundred houses have collapsed and many more are feared buried under the debris.
