Kamrao: On Wednesday, 1 October 2025, in honour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, the Tibetan settlement in Kamrao organised a special event as part of the global observance of the Compassion Year 2025-26.
The event took place at the Lhasol Ri (mountain of deity offerings) in Kamrao Gapa Tibetan Settlement. It was led by the Settlement Officer, Ugen Choedon Oshoe, along with representatives from the monastery, the President of Tibetan Gapa Welfare Society, members of the Local Tibetan Assembly, general public, camp leaders, school principal and teachers. A large number of residents also joined the gathering.
During the event, the settlement officer delivered a formal address. Monks performed prayers and rituals, including Long-life prayers for His Holiness, Recitations of sacred texts, Dedication of merits, and Aspiration prayers. The gathering expressed heartfelt wishes for His Holiness’s long life, the flourishing of his compassionate teachings and the fulfilment of his noble aspirations.
As part of the merit-making activity, 130 birds—including parrots and pigeons—were released into the wild, symbolising freedom and compassion.
A bird release event was organised to embody the values of compassion, non-violence, and reverence for life. This symbolic act of freeing ransomed birds reflects the Buddhist principle of saving lives and dedicating merit to the long life and aspirations of His Holiness.
