
DHARAMSHALA: A Tibetan parliamentary delegation comprising of Bawa Kelsang Gyaltsen, Yeshi Dolma and Yangchen Dolkar are in Japan as part of the lobbying campaign of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.
The parliamentary delegation met about 70 Japanese Tibet supporters and members of the Tibetan community in Tokyo on 4 July. They spoke about the lobbying campaign of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and the functions and role performed by the parliament in the Tibetan democratic polity.
They also talked about the critical situation prevailing inside Tibet, the Middle Way Approach of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Chinese government’s wrong policies in Tibet.
The talk was followed by a question and answer session where the audience asked them about the efficacy of self-immolations as a means of protest, the devolution of political authority by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, hopes from the new Chinese leadership and the benefits of the Middle Way Approach for China.
The parliamentary delegation hosted an honorary reception at Office of Tibet Japan on 5 July, for Mr. Makino Seishu and Igarashi Fumihiko, two staunch Tibet supporters in the Japanese parliament and co-founders of the Japanese parliamentary group for Tibet. The delegation expressed their heartfelt gratitude to them and presented a memento to them on behalf of the Tibetan Parliament to honor their long-time support to the Tibet issue.
The delegation met members of the Japanese Buddhist Association at Hotel Okura in the evening of 5 July. The Japanese Buddhist Association assured their continued support to the Tibet issue and stressed on exploring new ways of supporting the Tibetan people’s struggle.
The delegation also gave an interview to Japan’s leading political journal ‘Sapio’ during their visit.
The parliamentary delegation also attended the 79th birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, organised by the Office of Tibet based in Japan. The birthday celebration was attended by over 150 Tibetans and friends of Tibet in Japan.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Tibetan Parliamentary delegation narrated a brief biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and emphasised the three main commitments of His Holiness in his life.
