Dharamsala, 28 April: With the Tibetan communities all over the world showering support to the three Tibetan Youth Congress hunger strikers in New York, the Tibetan Youth Congress today announced that members of the Tibetan Parliament (Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies) will sit on a hunger strike tomorrow at the McLeod Ganj bus station to mark the Martyrs Day (6th anniversary of Martyr Thupten Ngodup’s death after self-immolation at Jantar Mantar on 28 April 1998).
Veteran political prisoner Takna Jigme Sangpo who was released on parole after thirty-seven years in prison will attend a modest function at seven in the morning at Lhagyalri.
According to a press release issued today by the largest Tibetan non-governmental organisation, the hunger strike by the Tibetan parliamentarians is a show of solidarity with the ongoing hunger strike in front of the UN building.
Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, while lauding the determination of the hunger strikers, had earlier said that activities like hunger strike would not be beneficial in the long run and that he would request the hunger strike to be called off.
A candle light vigil later in the evening will wrap up the day.
