DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile today unanimously passed a resolution to mourn the sad demise of Mr Mohan Singh, a senior Indian leader and a long-time supporter of the Tibetan cause.

A Resolution For Mourning and Paying Tribute
Preface
Shri Mohan Singh, Secretary-General of the Samajwadi Party of India and a long-time supporter of the Tibetan cause has, sadly, passed away on 22 September 2013 at 04:15 PM after prolonged illness at AIIMS hospital, New Delhi.
Born in 1945 at Jai Nagar in the region of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh State of India, he became president of the student union from 1968-1969 while studying at Allahabad University. He was a true patriot, deeply inspired by India’s two famous socialist leaders, Shri Raj Narain and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. He was imprisoned several times while actively taking part in national movements.
Besides having served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh state from 1977 to 1985, he was elected as a Member of Parliament to the tenth, twelfth and fourteenth Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Parliament of India. Later, he became member of the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Indian Parliament twice. He was the party spokesperson and Party whip in the Parliament. He was honoured with the best parliamentarian award in 2008. He was not only a Member of Parliament respected for his moral qualities, but he has also authored several books.
Shri Mohan Singh was a staunch supporter of the issue of Tibet. He took the leading role, along with Shri George Fernandes, in holding the First World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet in Delhi in 1994. He has also taken part in the subsequent World Parliamentarians’ Conventions on Tibet. He has raised the issue of Tibet in Indian Parliament. Moreover, he has shown the highest esteem and respect to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who he has met on several occasions.
Resolution
A resolution is hereby passed by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on 23/9/2013 to sincerely commend the accomplishments of the deceased and that his great visions be realized. Further, it is prayed that he attains noble rebirth, and that his family be extended with profound condolences.
