BERNE: Mrs. Tiana Moser (Green Liberal Party) and Mr. Martin Näf (Social Democratic Party) received the TPIE delegation in the Swiss Parliament in Berne on behalf of the “Multiparty Group for Tibet” in the Swiss Parliament.
Deputy Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel informed the two Swiss MPs about the situation in Tibet and extended an invitation to all members of the Tibet group to visit the Tibetan Parliament-in- Exile in India.
The invitation letter said: “It would be an honor for us if you and your colleagues of the Multiparty Group for Tibet in the Swiss Parliament agree to visit the Tibetan Parliament in Exile and gain an insight in Tibet’s political situation, the survival of Tibetan culture and identity in exile in India.”
At the meeting, various issues were discussed and also the need for better coordination. The 7th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet (WPCT) will take place next year in Strasbourg/France and hopefully will see the participation of Swiss MPs.
Mr. Ulrich Soltermann, the newly elected President of the Swiss Tibetan Friendship accompanied the delegation and was happy for this opportunity to be introduced to Mrs. Moser and Mr. Martin Näf.
Khenpo Sonam Tenphel thanked the Swiss Tibetan Friendship Association for its continued support for Tibet.
The Berne visit marked the end of the delegation’s mission to Europe that began on 28 May 2014 in Bruxelles.
The Tibetan Parliamentary delegation led by Khenpo Sonam Tenphel earlier met Mrs. Dorothy Frei, Speaker of the Zurich City Parliament and the Deputy Speaker Mr. Roger Bartholdi.
During their discussions, the delegation covered a wide range of issues from women’s rights to the situation of Tibetans living in the Zurich area.
Khenpo Sonam Tenphel thanked her on behalf of the Tibetan people, handed over various documents regarding the urgent situation in Tibet and presented two Khataks to the hosts.
